JESSICA STAM
Timing was everything for Jessica Stam. She and her family stopped at a coffee shop on the way home from an amusement park. An agent happened to be getting a cup of Joe there. Two short years later, that same girl from Kincardine, Ontario, became the muse to world-class photographer Steven Meisel. He cast the 15-year-old in nearly everything he shot, and before long, Stam's face was everywhere.
Born April 23, 1986, Stam (a.k.a. "Stammy") grew up on a farm with her parents and six brothers. In a relatively short time, the model's cat-shaped, icy-blue eyes and fair hair made her an industry favorite, landing her coveted campaigns with the likes of Miu Miu, Prada, Lanvin, H&M, and Dior. Her signature long, easy stride has turned her into a runway crowd pleaser, and she's opened and closed shows for Burberry, Valentino, and Carolina Herrera. The Wall Street Journal found her strut so noteworthy that it featured her teaching her catwalk style to a DKNY intern.
Like most of fashion's newest darlings, Stammy's passions go beyond shoes. (Though she admits they are her obsession; her collection is comprised of equal parts flats and heels.) The Forbes-ranked stunner definitely has a thing for music. Jessica loves a good night of karaoke and going to concerts, and she's been linked to Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis and DJ AM. And in a model maneuver we've never seen before, Stam recently started training to get her pilot's license.
As one of Vogue's handpicked World's Next Top Supermodels, it's safe to say we've only seen a glimmer of what's to come from Stam. After all, Marc Jacobs doesn't just go naming handbags after anyone!
